Job Summary:

The Educational Access Specialist (EAS) is responsible for carrying out the mission and vision of the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) program, a federally-funded TRIO program that focuses on assisting low-income, first-generation participants access postsecondary education. As a college access program, the EAS primarily assists adult students,19 years of age or older, navigate educational and workforce pathways by providing technical assistant, building motivation and confidence along with eliminating socio-economic barriers for program participants. Specifically, the EOC EASs establish relationships with selected community agencies, organizations, and educational institutions, in order to assist students and provide intense counseling services that include career exploration, financial aid, scholarships, school selection and admissions, and other postsecondary access and success supports. EOC EASs may also conduct evening and weekend workshops and advising sessions around the services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Bilingual Advising and Direct Services
Conducts individual and group sessions (both in-person and virtually) with participants on career selection and preparation, financial aid, scholarships, school selection and admissions, and other postsecondary access and success resources. Support around digital and financial literacy are also provided as well as referrals for those seeking career and technical education in addition to associate and bachelor degree pathways. Refers participants and their families to community and academic support services as appropriate. Compiles and designs curriculum and coordinates / facilitates workshops to cater to the needs of EOC participants.

Bilingual Outreach and Recruitment
Actively recruits-to-enroll program participants in the TRIO-EOC target area.
Disseminates information concerning EOC services and program resources by networking and outreaching to other agencies, colleges, and programs service providers who may also serve the target EOC population. Outreach activities include, but are not limited to, presentations and workshops (for schools, colleges, and agencies), career and educational fairs, call campaigns, tabling activities and direct marketing campaigns.

Completes record data entry for each participant in a timely manner within various web-based digital platforms and paper forms. Answers phone/web based inquires with on-going participant communication to assist with enrollment on-boarding and wrap-around support.

Remains current on knowledge of counseling techniques, financial aid, careers, schools, and programs by reading professional literature, manuals, and instruction books and by attending conferences and training sessions.

Other duties as assigned (ability and / or willingness to perform limited work outside traditional business hours).

  • Demonstrated professional proficiency in spoken English and Spanish sufficient to independently conduct participant advising, explain financial-aid and admissions processes, facilitate workshops, communicate with participants and families, and provide follow-up assistance in both languages
  • Ability to communicate complex and sometimes sensitive information accurately, clearly, and respectfully across languages and cultures.
  • Demonstrated customer service philosophy and a commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Guidance and Counseling, or a related field (experience can be considered as a substitute in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree)

Experience:
Minimum of two years advising experience in a higher educational or college access setting or equivalent experience in relevant field. Candidates without Bachelor degree require 3 to 5 years equivalent experience in higher education or high school setting facilitating direct support for college access, and or advising activities.

Licensure/Certification:
Possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License, and have a reliable vehicle to be used for work related travel

Experience:
Evidence working with college and university personnel and/or community and educational organizations and service agencies.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of TRIO programs
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish/English is desirable.
  • Curriculum development knowledge particularly in the area of career / workforce development, financial and / or digital literacy

TRIO-EOC Administrative Coordinator – Grant-Funded

This position is fully grant-funded and contingent upon continued funding. The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally funded TRIO program serving eligible adults, with an emphasis on low-income and first-generation participants, across the five-county Denver metropolitan service area. The program helps participants access secondary credential completion, postsecondary education, career training, and workforce-aligned pathways. The Administrative Coordinator organizes and coordinates the people, processes, systems, financial activities, records, and administrative resources that support EOC operations. Working under the direction of the EOC Director, the position supervises student employees; coordinates front-office coverage, participant intake, scheduling, and documentation processes; maintains program databases and reporting workflows; supports preparation of the Annual Performance Report and other required reports; monitors budget and procurement activities; and collaborates with institutional departments to resolve operational needs. The Coordinator exercises independent judgment in prioritizing responsibilities, addressing routine administrative and data-quality issues, improving workflows, and elevating significant fiscal, compliance, personnel, or programmatic concerns to EOC leadership.
