PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, managing, and evaluating all aspects of the Nursing programs including faculty and staff, curriculum development and implementation, compliance with accreditation and Colorado State Board of Nursing regulations. The Assistant Director of Nursing performs the Director of Nursing Education Practices duties in the absence of the Director. The position will support the programs in expansion through the development of new degree pathways, community organizations, and workforce development stakeholders. Through visionary leadership and effective administration, the ADON works with the DNEP to ensure that all programs are well managed daily and positioned for long-term innovation.

Reports to: Director of Nursing Education Practices

Essential Functions:
• Assists the Director of Nursing Education Practices (DNEP) with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of all nursing and behavioral health programs.
• Leads strategic planning initiatives for new learning activities, new program enhancements, and degree expansion including the expansion of high school programs.
• Assists the DNEP in coordinating activities related to academic policies, personnel policies, curriculum resources, facilities, services, and program evaluation.
• Provides oversight to Simulation practices for all nursing and behavioral health programs. • Assists in recruitment, interviewing and orientation of new faculty and staff
• Acts as an advocate for student and faculty
• Contributes to program planning, resource allocation, and budget management.
• Substitutes teaching responsibilities as needed.
• Provides oversight of campus programs when DNEP is not available.
• Ongoing assessment and evaluation of CCCS core curriculum processes for all nursing and behavioral health programs.
• Assess and evaluate strategies for innovative teaching within the nursing simulation laboratory as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completed master’s degree in nursing from a Nursing Education Program with national nursing accreditation.
• Active unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado.
• Two years of full-time clinical experience as a practicing registered nurse.
• Two years of full-time teaching experience in an approved nursing education program, experience shall be at or above the level of the program the individual will be directing.
• Documented knowledge and skills related to teaching adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation.
• Demonstrated administrative and nursing supervisory experience.
• Obtain Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) within two years of hire.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completed Doctorate degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
• Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
• Demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience in higher education.
• Knowledge of accreditation/re-accreditation process for nursing programs.
• Two years of experience supervising and evaluating staff and faculty.
• Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.
