Job Summary:

Provide English Language Learning instruction for adult ELL students in
CCD's College and Career English Language Learning (ELL) program.

CCD's ELL program offers multiple levels of instruction, from high
beginner to advanced. This includes courses to help students matriculate
to career track programs in post-secondary education. Instructors will demonstrate passion and expertise in assisting adult learners from diverse backgrounds with language acquisition to achieve education and career goals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Offer instruction at a specific level(s) or skill focus based on program enrollment needs.
-Track attendance, participate in retention strategies, and instructional
activities.
-Administer assessments, both formative and summative.
-Evaluate, track, and report on student progress and support learning using
established and current best practices in adult education.
-Proficient in multiple teaching modalities, including online, in-person, or hybrid instruction.
-Be willing to teach evenings and weekends based on program enrollment needs.
-Pro-actively maintain supportive lines of communication with students to
help them succeed in balancing life, work, and school and achieve
educational and career goals.
- Respectfully engage with program staff to problem-solve issues that create barriers for our students.
-Attend department meetings during active teaching semesters

Competencies/KSAs:

Years of experience for minimum= 2
Years of experience for preferred= 5
Using and managing LMS's (Google Classroom, D2L)
standard office equipment
Using and replying to email
texting products (Google or WhatsApp)

Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in English or related Liberal Arts field, or an Associates
Degree plus at least 3 years of experience teaching English as a second
language for adults in an institution of higher learning or an approved
educational program

Teaching experience with adults (over 17) in English as a Second Language,
English as a Foreign Language; subject-matter expert in English grammar,
vocabulary, syntax; able to clearly explain the mechanics and nuances of
expression in the English language to non-native speakers
Expertise and high comfort level with the latest technologies and Microsoft Office,
Google Docs, online instruction, audio and video devices, and data entry
Understanding of adult education in the community environment: the ability to
communicate effectively and problem-solve with adult students who are facing
personal challenges, barriers to learning, and/or technology issues
Proficient in effective lesson planning to meet student needs; able to develop
engaging activities with a wide range of materials to support multiple learning styles

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ Years of experience teaching ESL at college level
TEFL/TESL Certification
Work experience in nonprofits and community language-learning programs
(non-academic)
Has personal experience with language acquisition as an adult and speaks
more than one language
Documented recent professional development in ESL instruction for adult
learners
