Job Summary:

The successful Adjunct Instructor for Theatre must possess the academic and practical expertise to guide student learning and success, and to serve as a mentor and model for students. The applicant should demonstrate strong instructional skills and the ability to engage a diverse student body using traditional, nontraditional, and innovative methods of instruction and effectively structure classes and curriculum to support program and course outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary teaching duties will be within the Theatre (THE) discipline. The primary course is THE1005: Theatre Appreciation (GT-AH1), although additional assignments may be available, based on the applicant’s areas of expertise. Courses are offered online, in person, and through concurrent enrollment in local DPS schools. Production mentorship and possible leadership in the production season possible. While the instructor is free to choose supplementary materials, the curriculum, projects for department-level assessments, syllabus and textbook are provided for the courses.

 Beyond teaching, adjunct instructors are active participants in professional development, department projects, observations, and program assessment. The department is committed to closing the achievement gap in THE courses through systematic data review, reflection, and implementation of practices to improve student outcomes. The department is committed to student-centered teaching that fosters personal and academic success of our students, who are predominantly first-generation and from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education.

Ideal candidates will be able to help transition new students into the college experience. Successful applicants will share CCD’s and the Department of Performing Arts’ commitment to educating its diverse student population

Competencies/KSAs:

Knowledge of and a sensitivity the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Ability to examine and re-mediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support the diverse learning needs of students.

Ability to navigate and successfully work within online educational platforms including Banner, Desire2Learn, EAB Campus, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

A master’s degree or higher in theatre Arts, writing for performance, theatrical design, or technology & management

Also allowed:

A master’s degree or higher with 18 graduate credits in theatre from a regionally accredited program or a program accredited through NAST (National Association of Schools of Theatre).

Tested Professional Experience:

At least three years full-time experience working in the performing arts, craft, or entertainment trade.

Preferred Qualifications:

One (1) year teaching experience in performing arts.

Experience teaching diverse, multi-cultural populations (i.e. first generation, low income, minority, non-traditional, veterans, students with accommodation needs, etc.).
