Job Summary:
The Adjunct Instructor for History serves the integral role of teaching traditional, in-person classes and online courses, guided by CCNS learning outcomes. A successful candidate will treat all students equitably, fairly, and with the focused goal of student success.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Teaches history classes in a variety of times through multiple modalities:
- Online (through Desire2Learn, CCD’s LMS platform)
- In-person (using Desire2Learn as a consistent resource for students)
- Commands strong teaching skills, and models a student-centered environment to support a diverse student population.
- Utilizes a course syllabus, following established institutional and departmental guidelines.
- Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
- Effectively structures classes, curriculum, assignments, and assessments to support course outcomes, program outcomes, and student success.
- Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving CCNS course objectives and communicates with students about their progress in a timely and consistent manner.
- Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community members.
- Actively participates in discipline/department decision-making, processes, program development, program assessment, and curriculum development.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s degree in History, or related Master’s degree, and at least 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline to be taught.
Experience:
- All classroom instruction is supported by Desire2Learn (D2L), CCD’s adopted Learning Management System. It is preferred that the applicant have some familiarity and /or experience with D2L or other LMS platforms.
- Recent experience working with Latinx/Hispanic, African American, Native American, and other racially/ ethnically, socioeconomically minoritized students in the classroom is preferred.
- An understanding of how historical patterns have shaped these groups' experiences and representation within higher education, especially how real or perceived exclusion can shape patterns of participation and outcomes is required.
- Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to continually examine and re-mediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support various groups of marginalized students.
- Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
