Job Summary:

River Watch of Colorado is a statewide community science program partnering with local participants to monitor water health. Our work study will assist in keeping the program functioning, equipping volunteers and assisting our water analysis efforts!

Duties & Responsibilities:

*Works with the Community Outreach Coordinator to assist in supporting the River Watch volunteer network.

*Assists River Watch lab team with sample analysis in the Fort Collins & Denver Labs.

*Assists in Managing Sample Intake and Facilities at the Denver Lab

*Other duties as assigned

Competencies/KSAs:

● Willingness to work in an office setting.
● Demonstrated interest in stream ecology, chemistry, and biology or water policy.
● Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors and follow standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

*FAFSA on file and all requirements complete
*Enrolled in at least 6 hours at the Community College of Denver
*Meeting SAP

Preferred Qualifications:

● Preferred: Record of laboratory experience through coursework/volunteer work.
● Preferred: Demonstrate experience with presentation development and report writing, specifically fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite (Google drive, google docs, google sheets).
● Interest in supporting a volunteer-driven community science program.
● Must be resourceful and able to work independently while also contributing to a team. Attentive to detail, particularly as it relates to: 1) laboratory sample preparation and analysis, equipment cleaning, and field data collection and data management 2) high-level critical thinking tasks.
● Willingness to perform occasional outdoor field work with staff and volunteers

 

 

 

 

Additional Information/Benefits:

The student will be trained in water quality science, river science and some hydrology. They will gain skills in how to work in a professional lab setting and how to analyze samples effectively. They will learn how community science program's function, how volunteers are managed and how science functions in a non-profit setting.
This position is best fit for a student interested in environmental studies, water policy, the natural sciences or hydrologic engineering.

River Watch of Colorado sits at the intersection of community work, state and federal water law and regulation, water quality science and analysis, and hydrology.
