Job Summary:

The Part-Time Bilingual NCCER HVAC Instructor provides high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in English and Spanish to prepare students for successful careers in the HVAC industry. This position delivers NCCER-aligned curriculum through engaging instruction, demonstrations, skills practice, safety training, performance evaluations, and assessments that promote student achievement and workforce readiness. The instructor teaches HVAC fundamentals, refrigeration, electrical and heating systems, air distribution, diagnostics, installation, service, maintenance, and related technical concepts while fostering safe work practices, professionalism, and critical thinking. Working collaboratively with the Director of Skilled Trades and program faculty, the instructor ensures course delivery aligns with NCCER standards, Colorado Career and Technical Education expectations, approved curriculum, and current industry practices. The instructor leverages instructional technology and the college's learning management system to communicate with students, maintain accurate records, assess learning outcomes, and provide timely feedback.


As a representative of Red Rocks Community College, the instructor creates an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity, belonging, and student success, effectively serving bilingual and multilingual learners as well as students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. This position requires flexibility to teach in classroom, laboratory, hybrid, online, evening, weekend, and occasional off-site settings based on program needs. Finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including online courses. Compensation is based on credit hour/contact hour ratios and ranges from $1,660.54 to $1,826.60 per credit hour.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, tools, equipment, safety practices, and current industry standards.
  • Ability to deliver effective classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction in HVAC theory and practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach HVAC installation, maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse learners.
  • Ability to assess student learning, provide constructive feedback, and support student success.
  • Ability to maintain safe, organized, and inclusive learning environments.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology, learning management systems, and standard office software.
  • Ability to follow approved curriculum, student learning outcomes, and college policies.
  • Flexibility to teach in classroom, laboratory, hybrid, online, evening, weekend, and off-site settings.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet program objectives and diverse student learning needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilation or related field OR Journey worker level equal to 4 years’ experience in the Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilation trade
  • Has, or qualifies for, postsecondary CTE credential including 4000 non-teaching occupational
    hours within the last 7 years (2000 hours if at Bachelor’s or higher)
  • One semester of full-time (or equivalent part-time) teaching, training, or technical instruction experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diverse students and fostering an inclusive learning environment.


Physical & Cognitive Demands: The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position:
• Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and move throughout laboratory and classroom environments.
• Demonstrate HVAC installation, service, troubleshooting, and repair procedures using hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and instructional machinery.
• Frequently lift, carry, move, or position equipment, tools, and instructional materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Operate computers, instructional technology, learning management systems, and standard office equipment.
• Observe laboratory activities, identify safety hazards, and provide immediate instructional direction.
• Apply critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, evaluation, and sound judgment while instructing students and maintaining laboratory safety.
• Effectively communicate technical, instructional, and safety information to students, faculty, staff, and program leadership. People in this position regularly communicate with students, faculty, staff, and program leadership. Must be able to exchange accurate technical, safety, and instructional information in these situations.
