Job Summary:

The Nail Technology Instructor is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive Nail Technology program that provides students with a high-quality learning experience. This role prepares students for continued study within the Cosmetology pathway while equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue state board licensure/certification. The instructor also introduces students to career opportunities in the cosmetology industry and post-secondary education pathways, including community colleges and universities.


Part-time Instructors perform instruction-related duties, and responsibilities in their respective areas of expertise at the College in accordance with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Colorado Community College System and Red Rocks Community College. This posting will be used to fill multiple part-time Instructor vacancies. Finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online courses.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


• Knowledge of cosmetology principles, practices, techniques, and industry standards, with an emphasis in nail technology.
• Knowledge of Colorado State Board of Cosmetology requirements, Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards, and applicable district policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, infection control, safety, and sanitation practices.
• Skill in curriculum development, instructional planning, classroom management, and student assessment.
• Skill in oral and written communication, organization, and collaboration with students, families, colleagues, and industry partners.
• Skill in the use of instructional technology, student information systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and standard office equipment.
• Ability to deliver effective classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, post-secondary partners, and community stakeholders.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to interpret and apply applicable regulations, policies, and procedures while exercising sound professional judgment.
• Ability to maintain current industry knowledge, professional licensure, and required certifications.

Required Qualifications


Applicants must have ONE of the following:
● Valid and current state or national industry license or certification (i.e. current DORA-issued cosmetology license), or
● 24 semester hours of related post-secondary coursework verified on an official transcript (see CDE website: Secondary CTE Personal Care Services)

AND

Applicants must have ONE of the following:
● 2,000-4,000 hours of verified occupational experience, or
● Three (3) years full-time verified, licensed teaching experience in the content area or

AND

Applicants must be able to obtain a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Authorization in Secondary CTE Skilled Trades & Technical Sciences Personal Care Services prior to their first day of work.


Physical & Cognitive Demands:

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position:
● Occasionally moves, positions, and transport. Tasks may involve the lifting of people (clients) or items of various weights in a teaching setting weighing over 100 lbs.
• Tasks will require frequent sitting, standing or walking, and may include extended periods of time standing in a classroom or field setting.
• Tasks require dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of all equipment related to cosmetology program and/or office equipment
• The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 years of verified paid work experience as a licensed Cosmetologist and/or hold a valid Colorado Cosmetology License.
