Job Summary:

The Children's Center Classroom Assistant is responsible for creating a welcoming environment by greeting parents, children, and guests. Key duties include engaging children in creative activities, serving meals, supervising rest and outdoor time, and assisting with the overall operations of the classroom. This position is vital in supporting the daily operations of the Center and ensuring a safe and enriching experience for all children. This position reports to Susan Padgett, Director of the Children's Center. The Early Childhood Learning Center follows the general schedule of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Shift hours are flexible within that time frame.


This is a student employee position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability. Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA-CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits.

Required Qualifications:

• For work study employment:
o Must be an RRCC student and have been granted a work study award for the semester the student is seeking employment and maintain eligibility.
o Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours.
• For student hourly employment:
o Must be an RRCC student and enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours).

Physical & Cognitive Demands


The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with his position.
• Moves, positions, and transports children, files and office materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Perform frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and floor-level activities while interacting with children.
• This is not a sedentary role. This position operates in an classroom environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
• The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Hourly Pay
The compensation for this position is $18.81 to $19.31, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on need and budget availability. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
