Job Summary:
We are searching for a skilled grill cook with strong customer service skills to join our staff. Responsibilities for this position primarily include cooking orders for customers, keeping the grill stocked, and maintaining the grill area. This is a cook-to-order, front-of-house position.
Candidates must be reliable and able to work independently. The role requires sustained standing, lifting, and movement in a hot environment.
Applicants must be able to follow recipes, keep the grill area prepped with necessary items for the following shift, and possess strong safety, sanitation, and knife skills. A solid understanding of time and temperature controls is essential. Some prep work may also be required for catering and the preparation of meals for the children’s center.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM when classes are in session. When classes are not in session, hours shift to Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Full-time state employees work 70% (30 hours per week) during the 12-week summer period, with a return to a standard 100% schedule for the rest of the year.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent customer service skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months of experience as a grill cook.
Preferred Qualifications
- ServSafe Certificate.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Moves food and equipment items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- This position operates in a kitchen area where it is hot, floors may be wet/ slippery. Cold conditions in the refrigerator and freezer.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external customers and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary
Starting salary range for this position is $45,845 - $50,430 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
