Job Summary:
Red Rocks Community College is seeking part-time Accounting Instructors to teach accounting courses on an ongoing basis, depending on department need, enrollment, and budget. RRCC prepares students to launch or advance careers in accounting, business, finance, and related fields by developing the knowledge, technical skills, and professional judgment needed in today’s workplace.
Part-time Accounting Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, timely feedback, communication with students, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, online, remote, or other approved instructional formats. Courses may be offered during the day, evening, or weekend.
The instructor should demonstrate patience, professionalism, clear expectations for student work, and a commitment to student learning. The instructor must be able to support students with varied levels of academic preparation, workplace experience, and confidence with quantitative material. The instructor should also be able to connect accounting concepts to practical workplace applications.
This position reports to the department chair within the discipline and does not supervise other employees. Occasional meetings, trainings, or course preparation responsibilities may occur outside of scheduled class time. The finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online classes. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.
This is an open and continuous part-time instructor posting intended to build and maintain a qualified pool of Accounting instructors. Teaching assignments are based on qualifications, department need, enrollment, and budget. Candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Excellent oral, written, and listening skills, including timely and professional communication with students and the department.
• Professional experience in accounting, finance, tax, bookkeeping, corporate accounting, public accounting, or a closely related business field.
• Ability to work from campus, primarily at the Lakewood campus, with possible occasional hours at the Arvada campus.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach students in face-to-face, hybrid, online, remote, or other approved instructional formats.
• Flexible, student-centered teaching approach that supports learners with varied levels of academic preparation, workplace experience, and confidence with quantitative material.
• Ability to work with and motivate students in introductory and applied accounting courses.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to use effective instructional practices, including active learning, applied learning, technology integration, feedback, and assessment.
• Ability to provide clear expectations, meaningful assessment, and timely feedback related to student progress.
• Experience teaching, training, mentoring, or explaining accounting-related concepts to students, employees, clients, or other learners.
• Commitment to professional growth, including learning from feedback, engaging in professional development, and applying new strategies to improve instruction.
• Technology proficiency appropriate to teaching accounting courses, communicating with students, and supporting student learning.
• Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, instructional technologies and learning management systems used by the College, including Desire2Learn/D2L.
• Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, organization, and time management skills.
• Commitment to effective teaching at the community college level and an understanding of the community college mission.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues while demonstrating respect for differing perspectives and supporting a positive learning and work environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to working with and supporting students from diverse populations, including historically marginalized populations, first-generation students, veterans, students with disabilities, and students with varied educational and professional backgrounds.

CTE Requirement:
An active professional certification, such as the CPA or CMA AND has, or qualifies for, postsecondary CTE credential including 4000 non-teaching occupational hours within the last 7 years.

Has or qualifies for, postsecondary CTE credential including 2000 non-teaching occupational hours within the last 7 years.
Course(s): ACC 1032, ACC 1033, ACC 1035, ACC 2045
Education Requirement:
Master's degree in Accounting or any related field with 18 graduate hours in Accounting
AND
CTE Requirement:
Has or qualifies for postsecondary CTE credential including 2000 non-teaching occupational hours within the last 7 years
AND
Additional Requirement:
Has recent experience working with industry specific software programs used within each course.
OR
Education Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
AND
CTE Requirement:
An active professional certification, such as the CPA or CMA AND has, or qualifies for, post-secondary CTE credential including 4000 non-teaching occupational hours within the last 7 years

Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
• Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
• This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
• The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Benefits
Medical insurance is offered to instructors and other variable hour employees who have worked, on average, at least 30 hours per week in a 12-month period. RRCC/CCCS uses an initial 12-month measurement period to determine medical benefit eligibility, and a 12-month standard measurement period. Student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours a week when classes are in session, and may work up to 28 hours a week, during academic breaks or breaks between terms at the discretion of the college, and non-classified hourly and temporary staff are limited to 28 hours in a workweek, depending on budget and need. Sick leave is granted in accordance with SB20-205, Sick Leave for Employees, accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
Instructors and non-student hourly are required to contribute to Colorado PERA at a fixed percentage of their salary and do not contribute to Social Security. RRCC/CCCS student employees are not eligible to participate in PERA. RRCC/CCCS offers three tax-deferred investment plans, including 401(k), 403(b) and 457.
