Job Summary:

The library is seeking temporary assistance to provide respectful, welcoming, and helpful customer service and guidance to students, faculty, staff and visitors to the Learning Commons. Positions will work collaboratively with the library, tutoring, support staff and student workers by assisting with front desk and operational duties. Positions must be able to work independently at times, with limited supervision and exercise sound judgment when handling responsibilities.

This is a temporary part-time hourly position. Student hourly positions are not to exceed 20 hours per week. Non-student hourly positions are not to exceed 28 hours per week.

Assistance needed to cover multiple shifts/days at various campus locations during the following operational hours:
• Monday through Thursday 7:30am - 9:00pm
• Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
• Saturday and Sunday 8:00am - 3:00pm

General Duties
• Providing respectful, helpful, and welcoming customer service.
• Assisting with supervision of front desk operations on behalf of the direct supervisor.
• Opening and closing Learning Commons locations as assigned.
• Acting as a supervisor override for specific systems and assisting with upper-level processes under supervisor guidance.
• Communicating services, including tutoring, coaching, and library services, to students and other visitors.
• Assisting students with more complicated research questions and providing guidance with technology use (computers, software, and equipment).
• Respecting and maintaining student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations.
• Understanding and adhering to department guidelines, procedures, and the PPCC Student Code of Conduct.
• Maintaining organization and cleanliness of the front desk and department areas.
• Assisting students with use of services, scheduling tutoring appointments and room reservations, computers, copiers, and library book stacks.
• Assisting with planning appointments for the promise programs and the tutoring programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed high school diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in a library or learning commons setting.
  • One year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completed Associate's degree.
    Experience with the Interlibrary Loan System or Prospector.
  • Additional experience in a library or learning commons environment.

Temporary Hourly: Engineering Lab Assistant - Science, Engineering, and Math Division

The Science, Engineering, and Math Division serves a wide-ranging student population, from students currently in high school to adult learners returning to education after many years. Our division strives to assist all students and visitors who call or come into our office. The Engineering Lab Assistant helps PPSC engineering instructors prepare for, conduct, and clean up after engineering design labs. A workload of up to 20 hours per week is anticipated. This work will take place at both the Centennial and Rampart campuses. Because this work directly supports scheduled engineering labs, the student must be on-campus, in the lab classroom prior to, during and immediately following the lab. Other support activities will be necessary and can be performed at times convenient to the Lab Assistant and the faculty.  Ability to work evenings and travel to multiple campuses to support student and department needs.
