Job Summary:
Arapahoe Community College is seeking a Data Analyst to support institutional effectiveness through data analysis, reporting, automation, and business intelligence solutions. Working within the Office of Institutional Research, this position plays a critical role in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting institutional data related to enrollment, student success, demographics, and other key performance indicators that inform strategic planning across the college.
Candidates should be comfortable operating in both modern and legacy data environments. While proficiency in current analytics tools and best practices is essential, this role requires flexibility and problem-solving skills to work effectively with less-structured data systems as we continue to modernize our data infrastructure. Success in this position requires a commitment to data integrity, continuous improvement, and the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, automate, and maintain data pipelines, reporting frameworks, and business intelligence solutions.
- Query, manage, and analyze large and complex data sets using tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, R, and business intelligence platforms.
- Develop and maintain interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, and web-based tools.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators, and leadership to identify data needs and deliver actionable insights.
- Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) that support institutional planning and decision-making.
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency by partnering with data owners across the college.
- Coordinate institutional surveys, manage survey platforms, and support the interpretation and communication of survey results.
- Provide training and guidance on data access, interpretation, visualization, and the effective use of data in decision-making.
Competencies/KSAs:
- Expertise in relational and NoSQL databases, including SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, with advanced skills in writing and optimizing SQL queries, procedures, and views.
- Proficient in data integration and ETL/ELT processes, with strong understanding of data warehousing and business intelligence concepts.
- Knowledge of higher education reporting, compliance, and accreditation processes, including experience with external reporting requirements (e.g., IPEDS, Common Data Set, state and federal reporting), institutional surveys, course evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Skilled in programming languages for data analysis and automation, such as Python, Java, C#, SAS, R, and SPSS.
- Ability to guide data conversations and data consumers so data are presented and interpreted as actionable insights for immediate use in institutional decision-making for business decisions.
- Experienced in building interactive dashboards and visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, and web-based tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail for work with moderate-to-high complexity data under moderate supervision.
- Effective team collaborator and communicator across technical and non-technical audiences, translating campus needs into data solutions.
- Capable of navigating ambiguity, managing multiple projects independently, time management within a demanding workload, and adapting to evolving technologies.
- Committed to data integrity and confidentiality with a logical approach to organizing, analyzing, and documenting data.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree OR an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience. An equivalency will not count towards the experience requirements listed below.
- Two years of professional experience with large and longitudinal data sets in relational database environments, SQL, Python, or R for data querying, manipulation, and analysis. ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration, ad hoc data analysis in spreadsheet applications using formulas, data connection queries, and Power Pivot, and data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing, administering, and analyzing surveys.
