Job Summary:
Disability Access Services (DAS) is seeking a detail-oriented and technology-focused Alternative Text Editor/Assistive Technology Support team member to help ensure equitable access to instructional materials for students with disabilities. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Assistive Technology, this position coordinates the acquisition, conversion, and remediation of course materials, including textbooks, PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, tests, and other academic content into accessible alternative formats such as e-text, large print, Braille, and tactile graphics. The role requires collaboration with Assistive Technology and E-Text specialists to ensure materials are compatible with a variety of assistive technology software and devices.
In addition to document accessibility work, this position supports students and departmental operations through collaboration with DAS staff and assistive technology professionals to identify and provide appropriate accommodation resources. The successful candidate will have opportunities to assist students with assistive technology training and support while also contributing to daily office operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain, convert, remediate, and quality-check textbooks, tests, and other instructional materials into accessible alternative formats.
- Perform complex document remediation using Microsoft Office, Adobe applications, Kurzweil, and other assistive technology tools to ensure accessibility and usability.
- Collaborate with Assistive Technology and E-Text specialists to support document accessibility and compatibility with assistive technology software and devices.
- Coordinate with DAS staff to provide students with appropriate alternate formats and assistive technology support, training, and resources.
- Support departmental operations through front-office assistance, scheduling, communication, and other duties that contribute to student services and office effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a related field OR an equivalent amount of education and experience
- Strong technical proficiency in workplace software such as Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to adapt to a constantly changing work environment
- Ability to perform complex tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with adaptive tools and assistive technologies that support people with disabilities
- Understanding of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
